Trooper "dash cam" videos - secret no more?
This law should be changed. Why? For the protection of the trooper making an arrest. For the protection of the person being arrested by a trooper that has become aggressive or didn't have probable cause to make the arrest. For the protection of the ability of the public to exam its government through the use of the Open Records Act.
Every reader of this blog is likely aware of the abuse that naturally occurs when public servants are enshrouded in secrecy. In my work, I rely heavily on arrest videos, breath room videos and the power of the Open Records Act to investigate. Many times, the evidence uncovered is a game changer because truth is exposed (in or not in my clients favor).
The real issue and most frightening aspect: how was this law passed?
